BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL ​

Chang Rigphel Primary School, Thromde, Thimphu, was established in 2008 with 433 students and 19 teachers.

“It was initially started as a Lower Secondary School. However, the school is downgraded into a primary school since 2019 owing to space congestion and large number of pre-primary children. It is located at the base of a steep slope at about 150 meters below the old Lungtenphug Highway and about 100 meters above Thimphu Babesa Expressway. It is about 100 meters above Hotel White Tara at Olakha, Thimphu Thromde. “

The school has two three-storied and one two storied buildings, accommodating 22 sections from PP to class VI with a total of 885 students, 42 teachers, 4 non-teaching staff and 4 support staff. The lower blocks have 13 classrooms excluding a room each for library, ICT, staffroom, conference room and a science laboratory and the upper block accommodates 9 sections of classes IV-VI and offices and a staff room. The basketball court which is located in between the two main buildings is the only space for outdoor activities, which also serves for multi purposes like an assembly ground and to conduct other programs.

The school being constructed on the pooled and a limited piece of steep land, the management is coerced to be responsible and be vigilant about our students’ safety measures. The upper block is located on an area supported by high concrete walls which undeniably is a major safety concern. Around the vicinity of the school a number of private constructions are cropping-up which once used to be the flush-green carpet of paddy fields.

The school has no scope of expanding its infrastructure because of the limited space despite ever increasing admission pressure. Amidst these constraints, the school aspires to impart the best of public education and make it an exemplary institution of learning in Thimphu Thromde, the capital city of the Nation.

Regarding the overall progress of the school, the school has picked up the momentum of rapid progress both academically and non-academically since 2018 under the collaborative efforts of the whole staff and the community at large. Since 2018, the school secured the outstanding position in all the domains of progress and it shall be our priority to keep up the same spirit to further translate the school vision and missions into realities and convert into a model school in the times to come
